Application

What the application asks — and why

The cohort application is a structured intake, not a gate for gatekeeping’s sake. Its seven sections tell the selection committee exactly how to serve you:

  • Applicant identity — contact, location for local activation planning, and applicant type: veteran, spouse co-founder, or first responder.
  • Venture overview — venture name, lane selection, stage (idea, early, operating, scaling, restructuring), mission in 3–5 sentences, and target customer or beneficiary.
  • Needs and goals — your top three goals and biggest blockers, from formation and governance to funding, staffing, compliance, and marketing.
  • Capacity and commitment — live-session attendance, weekly deliverable commitment, and whether a co-founder joins.
  • Readiness indicators — draft mission, financial tracking, partners identified, service outline, formation steps started.
  • Scholarship / income-based pricing — household size and income band, scholarship request (none, partial, full), and rural access needs: travel, broadband, device, and childcare constraints.
  • Agreements — program terms and optional consent for outcomes tracking.

Scholarship guidance is written into the program: full scholarships are prioritized for applicants with high barriers to access, high readiness and commitment, and strong mission alignment — income bands by default, hardship overrides documented in case notes.

Training Tracks

Beyond ventures: five technical-assistance tracks

Housing readiness

The Homebuyer Self-Sufficiency Bootcamp: budgeting, credit, real estate contracts, and closing — aligned with the Louisiana Housing Corporation’s HUD-approved six-hour first-time homebuyer course, whose certificate unlocks most homebuyer-assistance programs.

Legal literacy

Family readiness documents — wills, powers of attorney, insurance readiness, burial planning — plus nonprofit formation, governance, and compliance fundamentals.

Workforce skills

TOWED trades and technical tracks, digital-skills cohorts with Net-WIRCing, and DoD SkillBridge-style pathways for transitioning service members in their final 180 days of service.

Disaster preparedness

Readiness and resiliency training through the Disaster Management & Resiliency Center — including volunteer firefighter and EMT certification pathways for veterans.

Organizational capacity

For nonprofits and providers: SOP libraries, KPI scorecards, funding stacks, and sponsorship program development — the same template pack the Boot Camp runs on, delivered as TA.

The annual rural bootcamp

An annual Rural Entrepreneurship Bootcamp — modeled on Syracuse’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans — anchors the training calendar as the consortium scales.
